Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate marked by sweltering temperatures and high humidity. The country has mainly four seasons. the winter (dec-feb). summer (mar-may), monsoon (jun-sep) and autumn (oct-nov). During summer and monsoon tropical cyclones. storms and tidal bores are not uncommon. It is mostly surrounded by indian territory except for a small strip in the southeast by Myanmar. Bay of Bengal lies on the south. Most of its area is relatively flat lying in the deltaic plain of hte Ganges-brahmputra-Meghna river system. The only significant uplands are in the northeast and southeast of the country wfith average elevation of 244m and 610m respectively. The country is covered with a netwfork of rivers and canals forming a maze of interconnecting channels.
Mention the word "Bangladesh" and travelers seem to get caught up in a world of images akin to monastery's and riding atop elephants in search of Bengal tigers. All that is well and good, but those in the "know" understand that Bangladesh boasts some of the most pristine and stunning beaches found anywhere in the world.
The population of Bangladesh is about 135 million. Majority of the population are Muslim. Hindus. Buddhists and Christians make up 13 percent of entire population. Over 98 percent of the people speak Bengali. English However. is widely used.
Bangladesh has an agrarian econoomy. Agriculture accounts for nearly 46 percent of the GDP nad provides employment to more than 61 percent of the worforce. Jute and rice are main cash crops. Other crops are tsea. sugarcane. oilseeds. fruits. vegetables. spices. wheat. potatoes. tovacco and cotton. The major industry in Bangladesh is jute processing followed by cotton. steel. garments and phamaceutical..
As an emerging nation. Bangladesh places special priority on economic and social developoment. In order to accelerate the development process the Government has recently decntralized the administration and has undertaken massive development programmes. A large numver of non-govermment organizations (NGO) are also involved in development aclivities to venefit the rural poor.
n pursuit of white sand, hot sun and lapping waves should head for Kuakata, a newly developed tourist resort. It is a scenic beauty spot on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh in the district of Patuakhali. Seemingly out of place for the area but beautifully in tune with its surroundings, visitors have their pick of gorgeous surroundings and plenty of leisure activities.
Sun-worshipers can also break away from coast (difficult as that may be) and head inland for a daytrip observing the traditions and unique lifestyle of the indigenous Rakhane tribe, and their stunning display of workmanship on everything from cigars to woven fabrics.
Not to far away, also in the extreme south of Bang, you'll find the world's longest and broadest beach, Inani Beach. Site of several modern beach resorts that pull in beach-lovers from all over the world, and with a mixed population of Bengali and Burmese, Inani Beach is a massive 120 kilometers (75 miles) long and 55 meters (180 feet) to 90 meet (300 feet) wide (depending on tide conditions). This entire area has not been fully exploited to tourism, and that is precisely why the area beckons you to check it out.
